Statistic from Vietnam General Statistic Office shows that the total number of international travelers visiting Vietnam in the first 10 months of 2012 reaches 5.35 million people, 11.2% higher than the same period last year.
Among these travelers, 3.17 million visits Vietnam for tourism purpose while 943,000 come for business and 940,000 for visiting relatives. The nations with highest increase in number of visitors to Vietnam this period are Korea (578,700 travelers, 35% higher), Japan (474,500 visitors, 23%) and Taiwan (349,200 travelers, 18.1%).
Tourism industry in Vietnam has targeted to welcome more than 6.5 million international travelers for the year of 2012. With this number of the first 10 months, which makes 82.3% of the plan, Vietnam has every hope to reach its goal.
In the tourism strategy of Vietnam government to 2020, the national administration sets objectives to have growth rate of about 11.5 – 12%, with total number of 10 – 10.5 million international travelers visiting a year, expected turnover of USD 18-19 USD a year, and creating jobs for more than 3 million people, including 870,000 direct works in tourism.
